Leadership Lessons from Dancing Guy

Sometimes we forget that a great leader can be a follower.

1 Samuel 14:6-7 Jonathan said to his young armor-bearer, “Come, let’s go over to the outpost of those uncircumcised fellows. Perhaps the LORD will act in our behalf. Nothing can hinder the LORD from saving, whether by many or by few.”
“Do all that you have in mind,” his armor-bearer said. “Go ahead; I am with you heart and soul.”

When Leaders step out into the unknown, it can be a frightening moment. Here in this scripture, Jonathan is not sure of the outcome and this was not a great battle strategy. In fact, It had never been done before in war. But when the first follower (his armor-bearer) steps up and says I got your back this is a game changer! And the outcome is monumental.

1 Samuel 14:13-14 Jonathan climbed up, using his hands and feet, with his armor-bearer right behind him. The Philistines fell before Jonathan, and his armor-bearer followed and killed behind him.  In that first attack Jonathan and his armor-bearer killed some twenty men in an area of about half an acre.

Not only does Jonathan and his armor-bearer have a great victory, but it also starts a great movement for all of Israel. Being the first follower may not get your name recorded in history as in the case of Jonathan’s armor-bearer but it could change the world. God has put you under your leader for a reason; so be your leaders dream fueler not dream killer. Go start a movement, lead by following!
